Hiroko Yamamura
Chicago
She/her
Equally enthralled by the beat and the machines generating them, Hiroko’s sound is an homage to every circuit, resistor, patch cord and process that brings voice and inspiration to her work. Her gothic and industrial roots are evident in her music, as well as her punk rock DIY drive. Taking inspiration from classic science fiction and dark anime, Hiroko’s introverted life and immersion in fringe, nerdy and introspective outlook are evident in her demeanor and the way she gravitates to outsiders within the community. Once she hits the decks, the isolation melts away as she lights up dance floors across the globe with an homage to the House, Acid and techno sounds that shaped her Rave youth. One of Hiroko’s main missions is to create an inclusive underground space and ensure everyone that feels like they might not fit has their important place in the culture.
Currently calling labels such as He /She / They, Planet E, Impact Mechanics, Afro Acid as well as many others home, Representing Chicago, calling clubs Spybar and Soundbar home, Hiroko actively contributes jacking Chicago techno with an edge all its own, along with her like-minded colleagues and collaborators recently including Heartthrob, Seth Troxler, Hyperactive, Angel Alanis,Justin Cudmore and the Submerge. This past year has seen Hiroko touring the world extensively, but still squeezing in time to watch her favorite anime series and catch on new comic books.
